Preamble

The Augustana diploma course in Information Technology is validated by the Commission For Higher Education (CHE) to provide students with a wide range of technical and technological skills required by industry.

Entry Requirements

A student applying for admission into the certificate course in Information Technology should have attained a minimum aggregate Grade of C- (minus) in KCSE OR KCE Division III or equivalent.

For a student to be admitted into the Diploma in Information Technology, the student should satisfy at least one of the following minimum requirements:

  1. i. Aggregate grade of C+ in KCSE and grade C (plain) in mathematics and English or Division II in KCE with credit passes in mathematics and English.
  2. ii. Students with a Credit Pass and above in the Certificate in Information Technology or the equivalent qualification will be considered for admission upon the approval by the Academic Board.
Mature age entry requirements are as stipulated below:
  • KCSE with a C (plain) or its equivalent;
  • Be at least 25 years of age;
  • Have at least 2 years work experience in the field of study sought; and
  • Pass an entrance examination set and administered by the college.

Structure

  • The duration for the diploma course taken through full-time mode shall extend over a period of eighteen (18) months including three (3) months of practical attachment in an IT industry.
  • For part time students, the duration of the diploma course shall not exceed thirty-six (36) months, including three (3) months of practical attachment in an IT industry.
  • The diploma course is structured to have five (5) stages each stage lasting for 12 weeks. For part time students, the duration of one stage shall not exceed twenty-four (24) weeks.
  • In each stage a student is expected to take five (5) units of 35- lecture hours. One lecture hour is defined as the equivalent of two (2) one-hour tutorial sessions or three (3) laboratory hours.
  • All units in stage I, II, and III shall comprise core units while the units for stage IV and V shall comprise of both core and elective units from the areas of specialization.
